Deepening the pragmatic cooperation with China

04-07 November 2018 – The Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW), Dr. Margarete Schramböck led an Austrian delegation to participate in the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai and was accompanied among others by Dr. Friedrich Stift, Austrian Ambassador to China, Consul General Ms Brigitte Robinson-Seyrlehner and Mr Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary and Director of Office of Science and Technology of the Austrian Embassy Beijing (OSTA).
Minister Schramböck attended the Opening Ceremony of CIIE and opened the Austrian National Pavilion, organized by Advantage Austria and paid a visit to individual company pavilions to explore the business investment situation of Austrian enterprises in China.
In the margings of the CIIE Minister Schramböck met with Mr Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China. Minister Schramböck underlined the importance the Austrian side attaches to strengthening cooperation with China in particular in the areas of trade, innovation and digital economy. The CIIE presents an opportunity to Austrian companies to offer more products and services in the Chinese market. Both sides also exchanged views on the “Belt & Road” initiative and e-commerce cooperation.

During the state visit of Austrian Federal President Van der Bellen and Federal Counsellor Sebastian Kurz to China, the Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs, Dr. Margarete Schramböck visited the Huawei Beijing Exhibition Center, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Alibaba Group on Monday, 9th of April 2018. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a functioning multilateral trade system and exploring the potential provided by the increase in the volume of E-Commerce.
On Tuesday, 10th of April, Minister Schramböck participated at the opening and the signing ceremony of the Austrian Technology Day co-organized by OSTA (on behalf of FFG) and Austrian Economic Chambers (WKÖ). She subsequently attended a bilateral meeting with representatives of the China Electronics Technology Group (CETC) and paid a visit to the Jingdong (JD) Technology Co. Ltd., where a strategic cooperation agreement was signed. During the subsequent bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) she had an exchange of views on Austrian-Chinese cooperation in the field of electronic industry.
Minister Schramböck concluded her visit at the Austrian Embassy in Beijing, where she co-signed an MoU concluded between the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and the EU Project Innovation Center (EUPIC) and attended a reception organized by OSTA with more than 40 Chinese and Austrian representatives from renowned IT-related companies, universities and institutes.
