OSTA accompanies BMDW and Austrian companies to Shanghai

Deepening the collaboration with Chinese start-ups and authorities

12 September 2019 – A delegation of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs and Austrian companies visited Shanghai from 11-13 November 2019. Mr. Florian Frauscher, Director General of Economic Affairs, Innovation and Internationalization Department, was head of the delegation and attended meetings with Shanghai Municipal Government and various Chinese innovative companies.

Mr. Stefan Riegler, Deputy Director General, Mr. Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Austrian Embassy, and Ms. Carina Margreiter, Program manager of Global incubator network Austria (GIN), led a part of the delegation to the start-up scene of Shanghai. Fruitful meetings and experience exchanges with Shanghai Technology Innovation Center, Chinacclerator and IJK Capital took place during the whole day. All sides expressed their strong willingness facilitating further collaborations.

A part of the delegation also visited the Sino-Austrian Eco Park in Nantong and discussed about concrete project realizations in the near future with Nantong Municipal officials.

09 September 2019 – The Joint Working Group for Green Development and Innovation between the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW) and the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of China (MOFCOM) had its 6th meeting in the margins of the Joint Economic Commission in Beijing. The Austrian delegation was headed by Mr. Stefan Riegler, deputy director general for Innovation at BMDW, accompanied by Mr. Philipp Agathonos, Ministry Plenipotentiary and Director of the Section for Science and Technology of the Austrian Embassy Beijing (OSTA Beijing). The Chinese delegation was headed by Mr. ZHU Bing, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Investment Administration of MOFCOM.

The Joint Working Group for Green Development and Innovation, originally named as the Working Group on Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection, was set in 2011 in Vienna. The renaming of the Joint Working Group was agreed by both sides during the meeting. Following a general introduction on the current state of the bilateral cooperation in this field by the Deputy Derector Mr. ZHOU Bing, Mr. Riegler held a presentation on research and innovation in Austria. The two delegations heard presentations by the Sutong Ecopark, the National Economical Technological Development Zones in Beijing, the Green Development League of NETDZs, the Austrian Business Service AWS on the Global Incubator Network (GIN), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and a representative of the general directorate of Digitalization of BMDW. Mr Zhou and Mr Riegler presented the conclusions of the Working Group at the 27th session of Joint Economic Commission which was held on the following day in Beijing.

06 November 2018 – To strengthen the cooperation between Austria and China, a partnership agreement between Global Incubator Network (GIN) Austria with Chinaccelerator, one of the country’s most successful startup accelerators, was signed in Shanghai on the margins of the CIIE in the presence of Austrian Ambassador to China, Dr. Friedrich Stift. Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW), Dr. Margarete Schramböck and Philipp Agathonos, Director of OSTA congratulated the signatories.

The agreement aims to support innovative start-ups and investors on both sides and marks the extension of the GIN-programme, which until now covered Israel, Singapore, Hongkong, the Republic of Korea and Japan to mainland China.

Visiting goHK Event and RISE Conference

10 to 12 July 2017 – It was a first time for 8 Austrian Start-ups together with their entrepreneurs coming to Hongkong, one of the most dynamic cities of the start-up scene, for scouting and learning purposes. This initiative, named as goHongKong, is supported by the Austrian Government and implemented by the Global Incubator Network of Austria (GIN). During the 3 weeks, the Austrian entrepreneurs have the opportunity to undergo an intensive accelerator programme at the Hongkong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) and participate to the RISE Conference, one of the most famous start-up event world-wide.

OSTA accompanied the GIN supervisors, Ms. Ivana Bacanovic and Mr. Jürgen Rattenberger, to the events and assisted the start-ups by hauling their businesses.
