12 June 2017 – 2017 International Cleantech Summit and 2nd Annual Meeting of 3iPET was held by Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection (FECO MEP) in Beijing with more than 250 participants from domestic and overseas governmental organisations and enterprises. Huang Runqiu, Vice Minister of Ministry of Environmental Protection of China also attended the event and addressed a keynote speech to the audience.
Laying cornerstone for new cooperative projects
17 May 2017 – Led by Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and director of OSTA and Dr. Gernot Grimm, head of staff group for technology transfer and security research, Austrian federal ministry for science, technology and transport (BMVIT), an Austrian delegation came together with Liu Zhiguang, director general of department of international cooperation, science and technology, ministry of water resources; Li Yun, vice president of the Nanjing hydraulic research institute and other representatives to discuss about the on-going as well as further collaboration. After reviewing the achieved progresses, both sides confirmed the great cooperation potential between Austria and China, especially in the field of water management. Elisabeth Rysanek, head of the environmental and agricultural section of the Austrian Embassy in Beijing also attended the meeting.
Extenting Sino-Austrian collaboration in Tianjin

16 May 2017 – An Austrian delegation led by Dr. Gernot Grimm, head of staff group for technology transfer and security research, Austrian federal ministry for science, technology and transport (BMVIT) and Philipp Agathonos, minister plenipotentiary for science and technology and director of OSTA, visited the Binhai New Area in Tianjin in the company of representatives from the China center for urban development (CCUD). The delegation was warmly welcomed by Xia Qinglin, deputy director of the people’s government of Tianjin Binhai New Area and Tang Zhongfu, deputy director of development and reform commission of Tianjin Binhai New Area. After an informative introduction and intensive discussion with the local governmental authorities, the delegation also had a tour through the China-Europe Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Park in Tianjin Harbor Economic Area.
Tianjin Binhai New Area is a national comprehensive reform pilot area. Based on the integration of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, it is regarded as the opening-up gateway of northern China as well as the high level modern manufacturing and R&D transformation base.

10 May 2017- From 10. to 12. May an Austrian delegation led by Dr. Gernot Grimm, head of staff group for technology transfer and security research, Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Technology and Transport (BMVIT), and Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and Director of OSTA, attended the Global Innovation Entrepreneurship Fair in Chengdu.
On 10. May the delegation attended the GIEF opening ceremony and subsequently visited the new Business and Innovation Center, where they took part at the opening ceremony organised by EUPIC in the presence of the party Chairman in Chengdu Mr. Fan and EU Ambassador Mr. Schweisgut. In the afternoon the delegation attended the International Seminar on Intellectual Property and Urban Development, organised by the S&T Department Chengdu. In parallel, Mr. Agathonos paid a visit to the South West Transportation University, one of the top level Universities in China.
On 11. May the Delegation attended the World Future Technology Forum of S&T Department Chengdu and had a meeting with representatives of DRC and S&T Department Chengdu.
On the last day of this Chengdu trip the delegation attended the Belt and Road Summit, on which Dr. Grimm gave a startling speech on the summit. On the same day Mr. Agathonos attended the startup Event “Slush” as a guest of Mayor’s Assistant of Chengdu, Mr. HAN, and participated at the inaugural panel discussion on start-up promotion.
This visit laid the foundations of a deeper cooperation between Austria and Chengdu in the fields of Science and Technology.
Fruitful Talks about current and potential cooperation between Xi´an and Austria

6 April 2017 – Mr. Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and director of OSTA visited Xi´an and had an exchange of views on possible bilateral cooperation between Austria and the city of Xi’an with the Xi´an Municipal Bureau of Sci. & Tech., the Xi´an Region Sci & Tech. Exchange Center, the Xi´an Intellectual Property Bureau, the Xi´an Municipal Industry and Information Committee, and the Xi´an Municipal Bureau of Transportation information about each other especially in the area of Science and Technology in order to explore cooperation opportunities.
The Xi´an governmental authorities showed great interest in collaboration with Austria and were willing to keep close ties with OSTA. OSTA informed an upcoming Austrian delegation in May to move forward the specific possible cooperation with Xi´an. Xi´an was looking forward to meeting the delegation for further discussion.
The Project Cooperation between ATC and Tianfu New Area Design Institute reaches concrete level
22 March 2016 – An Austrian delegation composed by Mr. Tino Terraneo (ATC), Mr. Philipp Agathonos, Mr. Max Pfeiler (both OSTA), Mr. Hans-Martin Neumann (AIT) and Mr. Oliver Gumpert (Doppelmayr) visited the Tianfu New Area Design Institute. The aim of the visit this time was to concrete the cooperation framework between the Austrian Technology Corporation (ATC) and the Tianfu New Area Design Institute (TFNA). Furthermore, some new projects ideas were also actively discussed.

21 & 23 March 2017 – OSTA’s representatives, Mr. Philipp Agathonos and Mr. Max Pfeiler, visited the Development and Reform Commission (DRC), the Chengdu Science and Technology Bureau (CDST) and the European Project Innovation Centre (EUPIC) in Chengdu and discussed current and potential future cooperation between Austrian and Chengdu-Stakeholders.
OSTA is now in the process of putting together an Austrian delegation to attend the upcoming Launching Ceremony of EUPIC’s Business & Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation(CCEC) in May.
Introducing strategies for City to City Cooperations

15 March 2017 – Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and director of OSTA, participated in the EU-China International Urban Cooperation Launch Event. The IUC programme boosts international urban cooperation with EU partners in Asia. With a budget of over EU 20 million, the IUC effectively supports Habitat III goals as well as the Paris Agreement and the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Deepening future cooperations

15 February 2017 – The Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology of Austria (BMVIT) and the Ministry of Transport of China (MoT) hold their 4th Joint Working Group in Vienna. During their fruitful and result-orientated discussions the two delegations jointly reviewed projects relating to Road Safety Management and Barriers, Tunnel Operation, Toll System Operation, Crowd Management, Mobility Demand, Aerial Cable Car and Waterway Transportation Security. Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and director of OSTA, also participated in the Joint Working Group and provided innovative momentum in respect of the discussions.
At the end of the meeting Dr. Gernot Grimm (BMVIT) and Mr. ZHAO Chongjiu (MoT) signed the minutes of the 4th Joint Working Group and confirmed their readiness to swiftly engage in follow-up activities.

25 November 2016 – Philipp Agathonos, Minister Plenipotentiary for Science and Technology and director of OSTA visited the CGS for the second time this autumn following a meeting and market research trip made by CGS and the Austrian Delegation (AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology and OSTA) in October 2016 to Beijing and Lanzhou. The two sides reviewed during their fruitfull and result-orientated discussions the state of play of their cooperation in the field of Geo-hazards management and agreed to focus their activites in the coming months on Xi’an, in partnership with the Xi’an Center of Geological Survey and to work actively to strengthen the Sino-Austrian geological and scientific and technological cooperation and to promote bilateral exchanges.
In 2017 the Xi’an Center of Geological Survey, CGS will carry out personnel exchanges and joint field visits with the Austrian Institute of Technology, focusing on learning from the Austrian geological disaster management technology and advanced experience. CGS was cordially invited AIT and OSTA to visit their institute in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province in the near future.
